Old Pics as Promised
Here are a couple of pics Kerry sent to me - which I have never seen before! It is so awesome getting back in touch with family!
Left to Right: Me, Tom with Deni, Jeffrey, Kerry (1975)
Left to right: 4 L-R Opal-1903, Ben-1888 (my great-grandfather), Lura-1885, Aubry-1898, Joseph-? (my great-great-grandfather) Dora-? (my great-great-grandmother) Grady-1900, Ivy-1894 (Newmans) (much earlier than 1975!)
There is one brother missing from this picture - Uncle Ted, the youngest (1906). He must have been away at college or something at the time. Uncle Ted and Aunt Mable were awesome! They used to have a cherry orchard in Montana and after they sold it they moved to Tucumcari New Mexico. It was always great fun to visit them.
My great-grandfather Ben lived to be 103 years old and (as he promised when I was born) - he was around to bounce my first-born on his knee! Joshua remembers Granddad bouncing his cane to entertain him. When I was young, he used to come visit us with a suitcase full of honey (he raised honeybees) and he would get off the bus one stop before ours so he could walk the rest of the way. He was always a walker. I guess walking is a good thing since he did live so long! And honey is supposed to be pretty healthy too - hmmmmm....

4 Generations of Newmans

I didn't even know this photograph existed. I found it while looking for something else. I knew some 4 generation photos existed with me in them but this is my brother, so it is 4 generations of Newman men. I thought it was a very cool picture. Granddad (Ben F. Newman) actually lived to be over 100 years old. I can only hope some of his good genes got passed along to me!!

Hungry Horse Montana

I had planned on doing this page awhile back but I was extremely disappointed that I could only find one picture of me on this horse statue. Yesterday, while looking for pictures of the kids, I found my grandmother's old slide viewer and in the case were more pictures of the 'hungry horse'. I was totally thrilled, as you can imagine. I used to love our trip to Hungry Horse - we always stopped there on the way to Glacier Park - and I always wanted to get a picture on the horse. We quit going to Montana in 1972 when my grandmother sold her place. But we went back on a 'fun' trip in 1980 - of course we had to go by and get a picture on "Old Jerry"! I wonder if it is still there. I searched for Hungry Horse images on the web but did not find any. But the Hungry Horse website says that there are 'statuesque' reminders of the hungry horses, so maybe they are still around! They used to refer to the town as the Dam Town and the store was the Dam Store. I thought that was cool because I could actually say it without getting in trouble!

Old Pics
While at my cousin Jennifer's house, I scanned some of my Aunt Anne's pictures. A few were in pretty bad shape, like this one of my brother and me, but I decided to just scrap it 'as is'.

And, like I said about this picture of "Christ of the Ozarks", I remember going to visit it when I was a kid and I think I remember music playing from some loud speakers. I also remember getting a handmade doll in Eureka springs - I think it was called an apple-head doll. I thought she was pretty ugly at the time - but I guess when your head is made from an apple you don't have much chance to be beautiful! I'm not sure if she was really made from an apple but I think I do still have her and now I am going to have to see if I can find her!
I did a search for this statue and found it - here are a couple of links - it's kind of a strange place...

3 Birthdays
Last weekend while visiting my brother Jeffrey and his family, we ended up celebrating 3 birthdays! Jeffrey's had been the week before, but they were actually in Chicago at the time for Mr. Beach's (Bonnie's father) burial. We never actually had a cake for Josh's birthday, and Saturday was Lee's birthday so Bonnie added their names to the cake and we sang to them all at once.
